Sailing Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley

There are so many ways to explore Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley while staying at Lighthouse Landing. One of the most popular is by way of a sailboat. Take our ASA Sailing School and rent one of our sailboats. Spend the day cruising the waters for an unforgettable experience with your friends and family.  With miles of open water, ample shoreline, and unforgettable sunsets, discover why sailing at Kentucky Lake is loved by all.  

Whether you own a boat, want to rent a boat, or are in the market to buy one, we’ve got you covered. Need somewhere to keep your boat? Lighthouse Landing Marina has 190 open slips for boats up to 42’ for both power and sailboats and is located in a well-protected harbor at mile marker 24 on the TN River/Kentucky Lake. GPS coordinates at the entrance to Lighthouse Landing are 37° 00′ N 88° 14′ W. We monitor channel 16 on our VHF radio and are open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm CST. Slips are rented yearly and daily. Slip customers have access to city water, 20- or 30-amp electricity, 2 bathhouses, laundry, Wi-Fi, and a self-service waste pump-out. Gas and diesel are available in our marina. Power and sail are welcome. The Lighthouse Landing Marina is a perfect place to spend the day while renting one of our cottages. Don’t forget to rent a golf cart to see all of Grand Rivers!

Learn How to Sail 

Don’t know how to sail? Not a problem! Lighthouse Landing offers sailing school and sailboat rentals. Since 1977, we have been helping people fulfill their dream of learning to sail. Our proven courses prepare you for ASA certification in Basic Keelboat (101) and Basic Coastal Cruising (103). You will also qualify for the USCG approved safe boating course. Practical Sailing is offered as a four-day (Basic Keelboat & Basic Coastal Cruising) weekend course. The schedule for sailing school begins in April. Call 270-362-8201 for more information. 

Kentucky Lake offers some of the best sailing in the Midwest.  Covering just over 250 square miles, Kentucky Lake offers plenty of areas to explore.  Some of the best places to sail are between Kentucky Dam and Eggner’s Ferry Bridge. 

Join the Kentucky Lake Sailing Club

If you plan to spend a lot of time sailing at Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, then you may want to consider joining the Kentucky Lake Sailing Club. They help people learn to race and introduce novices to the sport of sailing. They host four regattas each year for all sailors – not just members.
