Grand Rivers Jetty & Walking Trail

Kentucky Lake Activities

Enjoy beautiful views on Kentucky Lake with a stroll on the Grand Rivers Walking Trail. The Grand Rivers Jetty, adjacent to Lighthouse Landing, is a two-mile walking trail that extends out onto Kentucky Lake with an open Gazebo and benches where you can sit and watch the sunset.

Grand Rivers was founded in the late 1800’s on the dreams of becoming a steel production leader in the industry. Where the Grand Rivers Jetty is now located, before Kentucky Lake was created, stood an iron ore furnace. The furnace would produce and drop cinders on the ground that became known as the “Cinder Piles” around town. Of course, coming out of the furnace these cinders were hot and melted together making slag piles. When TVA flooded the area in 1944 to create Kentucky Lake, the piles stood taller than the water, creating what looked like metal icebergs just offshore where the jetty gazebo now stands. Sadly over the years several lives were lost by those swimming out to the cinder piles, falling victim to the strong undercurrent. The city of Grand Rivers built the Jetty using the strong foundation of the cinder piles as the base for the viewing and gazebo area.

Listed in Cosmopolitan Magazine in 2006 as one of the top 50 romantic spots in the country, The Jetty is an idyllic place for small weddings. Call Grand Rivers City Hall for Jetty wedding information at 270-362-8272.

The Grand Rivers Walking Trail can be reached by walking from your cottage or driving to the parking area located near the Jetty. The trail takes you from the Jetty at Lighthouse Landing through downtown Grand Rivers, ending at Little Lake Park, making it easy to go from Lighthouse Landing to dining, shopping, events, and entertainment.
