Kentucky Lake Outdoor Activities

Our area is known for its hiking and biking with miles of trails to choose from, from short and paved trails to long mountain bike trails. Walk the Grand Rivers trail from Lighthouse Landing to Little Lake Park, which takes you through our downtown area.  

At the Land Between the Lakes hiking trails, you will find a variety of scenic trails, loaded with nature and history.  To experience these trails on a bike, visit our local bike shop, Wood-N-Wave, right here in Grand Rivers. Be sure to stop in at the LBL North Welcome Station for maps and information on their trail systems.

Hiking and Biking: 

  • Canal Loop Trail

This 11-mile loop is one of the most popular mountain biking trails, offering lake views, challenging terrain, and options for short or long loops.

  • Central Hardwood Scenic Trail

This trial features 11 miles of compacted stone/paved surfaces, gentle grades, and trail-side rest areas all while providing shoreline views of Lake Barkley and wildlife viewing opportunities.  

  • Fort Henry Trail

The Fort Henry Trail Systems connects 9 trials totaling 27 miles and offers hikers/bikers some of the best opportunities for solitude at Land Between the Lakes.

  • Hillman Heritage National Recreation Trail

These trials include 5.7 miles of terrain and are open to Hillman campers, as well as the general public, for hiking and biking.

  • North/South Trail (North end)

This 59-mile trail spans the entire length of the recreation area and the terrain ranges from rugged, hilly areas in the north to easier, less strenuous hiking in the south.

Hiking: 

  • Woodlands Nature Watch

The Woodlands Nature Watch Area offers an optimum opportunity to see native wildlife at Land Between the Lakes.

  • Hematite Trail

This 2.2-mile loop trail is known for its high diversity of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and woodland wildflowers.

  • Long Creek Paved Trail- Accessible for persons with disabilities

This 1/4-mile paved trail offers a great opportunity for children and other people looking for an easy walk.

  • Honker Lake and Trail

This 4.5-mile loop trail circles the lake, meandering through the lake shore, upland, and bottom-land forest settings

  • North/South Trail (South end)

The 27-mile South End of this trail hiker-only trail has a shared-use equestrian section between Road 342 and the Homeplace.
