Many people travel to the Land Between the Lakes in the summer for a vacation out on the water, but the fall season also brings plenty of fun! A fall trip to Kentucky Lake brings in crisp fall temperatures, vibrant colors among the leaves, and an opportunity to come together with the Kentucky community.
Perfect Autumn Weather
As fall rolls out in Kentucky Lake, the temperature drops to a cooler climate. Temperatures range from 50 to 83 degrees during the day, and nighttime temperatures drop to 40 to 60 degrees, so wear warm and cozy attire during your fall getaway! September and October are the clearest months throughout the year, giving you sunny days while exploring.
Fall Wildlife Watching
Fall is prime time to see elk scurry about in Kentucky Lake! Fall is the elk rutting season, meaning it’s time for their mating season and lasts from mid-September through mid-October. Keep your ears peeled to hear their bugling during this time.
You also have an excellent opportunity to spot white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and even bison right off the road!
You’ll have a great chance to spot local wildlife when you lace up your running shoes and join in at Amelia’s Run. On October 22, you’ll be able to take in the fall views of Land Between the Lakes while running the 10K or new 5K course. Your little ones can join in with the Kid Fun Run! Entry is $10 and includes a commemorative medal and t-shirt. All proceeds from this 10K will go to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates in honor of Amelia B. Wilson.
Fall at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area
The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area holds the key to seeing all the fall beauty in Kentucky Lake. Hike through scenic sights on the Hematite Trail and see a nice collection of old-growth trees and Hematite Lake. Long Creek Paved Trail is another hike with views of vast forestlands in fall colors.
